Another of the five new Australian players signed in the off-season. Became an instant target for the Warriors when it emerged he wasn't wanted for the new joint venture side, the Northern Eagles. As a North Sydney regular, Pethybridge himself believed he was in the frame and was shocked when he discovered he'd been left out of the squad. Was still 16 when he made his first grade debut for Penrith as an interchange player in 1994 (his only appearance that year). A speedy winger or centre - he can also play at fullback - he established himself in the Penrith line-up the next two seasons, making a further 33 appearances. In 1996 he was also in the Junior Kangaroos on tour in Fiji, with fellow new Warrior Mark Tookey as a team-mate. When war broke out between the ARL and Super League, Pethybridge aligned himself with the ARL, signing with North Sydney. His first season there in 1997 was limited to seven first grade outings, but he appeared 25 times in 1998 and 23 times last year. Also a useful goalkicker, he's from genuine rugby league stock, his uncle Gary having played extensively for Parramatta, St George and Penrith in the 1970s. Scott Pethybridge scored 10 tries in 34 games for Penrith and 16 in 55 for Norths.
